For the haunted maize I stood For the haunted maize I stood in queue,
hand in hand with the innocent.
An eternity at death's cold door
and then plunging into darkness
The great red dragon roared his rage
and his flames warmed our faces
"Come and play ye children of corn"
and in pride we answered his hatred
All was wonder and deathly quiet
at the beginning of this journey
Then the monsters from the dark arose
With their hate and pain and cruelty
Once like us they answered the call
when crowned with human glory
But now are lost in fits of rage
attacking all that's holy
Half steps we take together
through endless blood and gore
Then I find I'm bleeding
and wounded to the core
The weapons that I have to wield

Today I was at Coast Guard StaToday I was at Coast Guard Station Golden Gate when the 9-11 call came through; someone had just jumped from the bridge. It was a gorgeous winter day, and I was thinking of you. I was there when they pulled him from the water, onto the dock and onto the litter. The sweet green forest sings no more
Still so vulnerable to the fire's invasion?
Dead black trees picket the devastation
Warmly I recall evening's aspen glow
Sun's light streaming though leaves and snow
Yet so swift the fiery violence?
The tragic glory of ashes and silence
Storied forest floor rich in fuel
The creator's equation of renewal
Do we cry at injustice, life and death?
Discovering love again with every breath
Smoldering embers smoke the sky
I'll love this forest until I die
Will the seasons spring new life and mirth?
Yet this land will bear this tear stained earth
